I supervised Mr. Hook for my school’s 2022 - 2023 school year. During this time, I witnessed his commitment to helping students develop academic skills and take healthy risks.

Mr. Hook helped students develop their academic skills by using culturally relevant literature and various instructional strategies that aligned with the needs of Common Core math standards. For example, during one of his English Language Arts, Mr. Hook taught a unit on Jackie Robison that helped students connect to past and present challenges in our society. Similarly, Mr. Hook taught math using various approaches that helped students develop a conceptual understanding of math rather than memorizing one method or process. This led to students feeling more excited to solve various math problems.

In addition to helping our students build their academic abilities, Mr. Hook was also able to help our students take healthy risks. He did this by incorporating learning activities that allowed students to learn in small groups. As a result of working in these small groups, students grew confident and often presented their knowledge to other peers. Similarly, to help students gain more confidence in their voices and artistic abilities, Mr. Hook choreographed performances and plays at our school.  He is a teacher that students often ask about because of his ability to grow students.

From a Father

Wanted to give a shout-out to Jordan Hook, our son's tutor who's been nothing short of amazing for the last 10 years. Jordan's not your typical tutor, he's more like a cool older brother who knows how to make learning fun. Our son, to this day, still looks forward to getting time with his favorite tutor and friend.

Jordan is all about mixing things up with brain breaks and physical activities, keeping our son engaged and excited to learn. For example, times tables were done while playing catch in the backyard. Guitar was played in between math and the revolutionary war.

 But here’s what I appreciate the most: Jordan's patience and understanding. He's been there, coaching our son through the tough stuff like anxiety and processing issues, and helping him navigate junior high and high school with confidence.

 And can I just say, Jordan's not just about academics. He's opened up a whole new world for our son, from bonding over Beatles tunes to sparking a love for the great outdoors. Plus, his calming presence is like a breath of fresh air for the whole family.
