Jordan Alexander Hook
I grew up in Texas and moved to Los Angeles in 2008 after graduating from Texas Tech University. I discovered that the jobs I enjoyed and were the best at all were instructional: surf coach, music and songwriting teacher, fly fishing guide, after-school tutor.
My tutoring has grown continually for 9 years almost entirely on referrals. I am experienced with all subjects from grades 4 through 10, but I really enjoy and excel at helping students with their reading comprehension and writing mechanics. I love reading and writing myself (my mother was a school librarian), and helping students learn to love books and to express themselves through written word is one of the highlights of my job.
Surfing has allowed me the opportunity to travel around the world and experience some beautiful locations and epic waves, but my favorite one is still the wave in my backyard with all my friends on a hot summer day: first point, Malibu.
Music has always been an important part of my life, from singing in the Houston Children’s Chorus and church choir at a young age to playing saxophone in the school band. Now I front my own original country/Americana band. I also play guitar and banjo in a local old time string band that plays traditional fiddle tunes and square dance songs. I love playing square dances in LA, it’s a fun, family-friendly good time! You can learn more about my music at www.jordanhookmusic.com .
I am also a licensed fly fishing guide under the name Hook on the Fly and do several weekend trips to the Bishop/Mammoth area every year. I have a fishing vlog so you can see what it’s like going fishing with me, check it out at youtube.com/hookonthefly .
I’m also a husband and a father of one rad baby boy!
One other thing you should know about me is that I love snakes, spiders, and all sorts of bugs. If it crawls and it’s cool, I’m probably trying to catch it.
